In iOS 12 Apple has chose to focus on stability, speed and performance instead of adding tons of new features. Here’s everything that’s new with iOS 12
- Breathing new life in old devices
- iOS 12 even runs on iPhone 5S making it one of the longest supported phones in history. Apple has made changes such that older iPhones work and feel faster. App launch times can be observed as notably faster on iPhone 6S
- Bug fixes and improvements in overall experience
- Apple has worked really hard in fixing bugs that were introduced in iOS 11
- Also even there are no changes in terms of looks, there are tons of minor improvements to the experience throughout the system like
- Grouped notifications, notifications from same app are now grouped in notification center
- OTP autodetect: if you receive an OTP through SMS, iOS will detect and suggest it in keyboard for you to quickly enter
- Group Facetime
- Memoji for iPhone X and higher
- Privacy
- Safari now prevents Share buttons and comment widgets on web pages from tracking you without your permission. Safari also prevents advertisers from collecting your device’s unique characteristics, so they can’t identify your device or retarget ads to you across the web.
- Siri Shortcuts
- Siri gets smarter and can do a lot of things for you by learning your usage habits. You can also program set of commands to Siri to execute.
- Digital Wellbeing
- Keep your smartphone addiction in check with this new feature that shows how much time you spend on your phone, in which app and set rules for how much time you can use certain apps. I have covered it in this post.
