How to use Siri to make sure you scrub your hands for enough time

One of the effective ways to avoid getting infected by viruses is to properly wash your hands. And that to for at least 20-30 seconds. There are different techniques out there to make sure that you are meeting this minimum timing like Singing “Happy Birthday song”.

But here’s a better one, you can make use of Siri to measure those seconds for you. And there’s a quick “Siri Shortcut” that you can use.

How it works:

[make sure your phone is with you and handsfree “Hey Siri” is enabled]

  1. Wet your hands with water, apply soap and can say “Hey Siri wash hands”. This will invoke Siri and it will tell you “Start scrubbing your hands. I will remind you to stop in 20 seconds”

2. Start Scrubbing your hands

3. After 20 seconds it will say “You can now Rinse”

That’s it, you are done. However, this shortcut doesn’t come pre-installed with the iPhone and you will have to download it.

Follow these instructions to download the shortcut:

  1. First enable Third party shortcuts on your Phone by Opening “Settings”->”Shortcuts”-> and enable “Allow Untrusted Shortcuts”. [Dont worry you can check the shortcut configuration before using, it is perfectly safe]
  2. Go to this link on your iPhone and click “Get shortcut” https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/a777f9650d7b482c9d73817b253706d3
  3. A popup will appear display contents of the shortcut. Scroll below and click “Add Untrusted Shortcut”. And you are done.

Now when you say “Hey Siri, wash hands” this shortcut will run.

Footnotes:

  1. Make sure handsfree, Listen for “Hey Siri” is enabled
  2. You can change the shortcut phrase “Wash hands” to anything you like, by editing the shortcut
  3. You can also change the duration of waiting time by editing the shortcut
